“Yes, Connie.” Mikasa hissed, trying to listen more closely to the low bellows and snarls that erupted from the pit of the basement. One hand stayed fixed on the corner of the wall, not a tremble or any sign of terror visible on her frame.

If it was a titan down there, then they needed a plan—and quickly. Whipping around back to Connie, she gave him a stern, commanding expression.

“—you really think this is a titan?"

Although her tone held question, her stance stayed strong, and her muscles tensed, “If so, we need to think of a plan, do you understand?” If this was true, then were lives at stake—new recruits, and the already, far more experienced officers in the Scouting Legion.

Maybe, this wasn’t a job to do alone, but it was just—one titan. “—do you think we can get the swords and the gear in time?” Thin, dark brows furrowed, and thought over potential actions and alternative routes. Not knowing their way completely around the headquarters was a disadvantage, but she figured they could make do.

Shaking her head, and finding no plan that would ensure both of their safety, she turned her gaze down to the floor, half cursing herself for her next suggestion, “—maybe we should get the corporal.”

Getting the… Corporal? That’d mean… wait. Connie thumbled through the logic of Mikasa’s plan, trying to comprehend their exact route of action. Going to get the Corporal would mean one of them would be standing here alone, wouldn’t it? Then again, getting their gear would mean the entrance to the cellar would be left completely unguarded.

“Mika, I don’t even know where that shortie’s quarters are. May make more sense if we just get the gear,” Connie shook his head violently, trying to dismantle the petrifying fear which paralyzed his limbs. That way, no one would be standing here alone.

                      …Especially not… him.

What made sense right now, as far as he was concerned, was not being left here alone. His wild, hazel eyes glancing down the shadow-shrouded hallway to the hidden cellar door revealed some sort of sadistic illusion; a single figure, a trick of his mind, something moving down there. A single, nervous blink, and it was gone–

–Just like that. Never there in the first place.

Her question–

“You really think this is a titan?”

What else made sense? Nothing. Nothing else was possible, nothing else could make such loud noises. Sure, it could be one of that crazy lady’s test subjects–but wouldn’t those titans be chained up, completely restrained?

They shouldn’t be free to roam around in the cellar. His eyes glancing back to his comrade, Connie thought he heard something again–another deep, low thud; the sound of things being knocked over in the dark.

A startled jump, and the young man spoke in a hurry; “–I don’t care what the hell it is, dude. Let’s just go get our gear and be back here as fast as we can!”
