Things that go Bump in the Night || periti

Crap. That didn’t sound good. Peeking around the corner, Connie’s nervous, wide hazel eyes stared into an unexpected darkness. The basement of the Scouting Legion’s fort lay before him, the cellar’s stone staircase cloaked in a veil of shadows.

                Turn away, dude.

Turn away, head back to the sleeping quarters, get back on your way to bed.

                                   It’s too late, man.

                                                      …You’re just– hearing things.

His shoes moved ahead of him while his head remained subconsciously behind; Springer simply couldn’t avert his gaze from the direction such a sound had come from. Old buildings made noises, didn’t they? This was a damn castle, of course it’d have a few creaks and quirks.

As his head slowly followed his mind’s command, the noise seemed to know it had lost his attention.

                            –Clonk.

                                          –Clonk.

                                                         –Thud.

Pulse racing, Connie dashed back to the focal point of the noise, the dark basement hidden down past the lightless stairs; this pit of hellish, unknown doom. The Scouting Legion was fucking scary. What the crap was down there?

“…T-ti…” His lip quivered, rejecting the idea as it crawled up his throat. That wasn’t possible. But what else would make such a loud noise? Finally, the word rushed out, cracking his voice as it escaped–“There’s a fuggin’ Titan in here! Somebody–”

“–Anybody, come quick!”
